Good news about animals

Uplifting animal news: species bouncing back, wildlife rescues, conservation wins and surprising discoveries about how animals live.

Some of the most hopeful stories in the news are about animals: a species thought lost found again, a population that has recovered after years of protection, a rescue that worked, or a study showing that animals are cleverer and more social than we thought.

This page collects them from conservation groups, science magazines and newsrooms. It covers wildlife on land and at sea, as well as the pets and farm animals people share their lives with.

Stories about animals often involve loss, so each one is scored for what it reports. A recovery after a long decline can score highly; a story that is mostly about the decline won’t make it here.
